A young right-back come wingback, Carragher impressed in his appearances in pre-season matches in 1996 when he took his chance due to injuries. He was rewarded with being given a squad number and sat on the bench for the first few games of the 1996/97 season.  
 

In 98/99 Jamie has been placed in the central of the Liverpool defence. He is there but weather he likes it there we don't know.
