Phil Babb

PHILL BABB

Londoner Phil Babb began his career with Millwall although he never appeared for the team before moving to Bradford City. He was initially a midfielder in his first few seasons, scoring 14 goals in his 80 league appearances, but he had been converted to a central defender by the time of his move to Coventry.
Nevertheless, a few weeks after the start of the 1994/95 season Babb moved to Liverpool for a British record fee for a defender. Within 24 hours John Scales had also arrived for a similar fee as Roy Evans set about his rebuilding plans.
At the beginning of the 1996/97 season Phil Babb finally scored his first goal for Liverpool after almost 100 appearances. Almost inevitably it came against his old club Coventry City.
Since then he has really failed to shine for Liverpool. He had a few runs in the 97/98 season but was pushed out of the first team by Matteo & Harkness. He will now find it harder to get into the squad with more central defenders on the way.

In 98/99 Babb has appeared so many times for Liverpool but no one knows why. He has performed so badly so far this season.
